1.12.4LatestSeptember 2026
- Three ways to start. NEW offers a script import, a blank storyboard or the bundled example. A blank board and the example need no AI setup at all; the first empty shot opens straight into its editor, and you can add more shots by hand in the script step.
- Working on after an error. A failed image, edit or clip job hands the controls back instead of leaving them grey; Cancel no longer closes the dialog with it, and what you typed stays. Generation only starts after the save is confirmed — a dialog closed in between starts nothing.
- One card means one card. Generate on a single card stays on that card, even with a multi-selection on the board. The batch report lists done, failed and skipped shots with their reasons; AI → Last Image Results brings it back, and failed shots can be selected without kicking off a retry.
- Clearer setup. TEST SAVED KEY tests exactly that — the saved key, never a value still sitting unsaved in the field. A video model list that failed to load is told apart from a provider that is not set up. FILES, FOLDERS and ADD IMAGE replace the old import labels.
- Exports that tell the truth. Rejected, empty and cancelled export answers are handled cleanly, JSON/XML are not written from stale data after a failed save, and a finished export names the path it actually went to.
- Undo stays in its film. Switching projects clears the undo history at once, so an old snapshot can never overwrite another film. Cancelling on the last shot of a batch is reported as cancelled, not as done.
1.12.3September 2026
- Project locks across computers. A film open on another machine is recognised as such, and once another instance takes ownership this one refuses to write over it. A project file replaced from outside is detected instead of being silently skipped on save.
- A protected backup when a lot disappears at once. If media links vanish in bulk, the last good copy is kept aside. Shared media files survive the trimming of image and video version lists.
- Edits and generated assets no longer race. Board edits are preserved next to freshly generated pictures; a failed save keeps the current screen open; a result that arrives late stays tied to the film it was made for and reports when it could not be attached. Two jobs can no longer overlap on one shot, and MCP clients are served one at a time.
- The continuity anchor and the film’s image-model family are respected by picture edits and character sheets alike, and the default text model shown in Settings is the one that actually runs.
1.12.2September 2026
- NUVAR is its own MCP server. Settings → AI Agents (MCP): while NUVAR is open it serves the Model Context Protocol on your computer, behind a token. Claude Code, Cursor and the Codex CLI connect with one copied line — nothing to install; Claude Desktop through the small mcp-remote bridge. Same engine as the app, same films, same guards: every paid tool is a dry run until the client confirms, with a session spend cap on top, and the film on screen reloads by itself when the agent changes it. In 1.12.1 the server only existed for people with the source folder.
- The 3D editor on macOS said “Three.js could not be loaded”. The library was imported through a relative path inside the app archive, and on a Mac the app lives in a folder with a space in its name — the module loader choked on exactly that. The app serves it itself now.
1.12.1September 2026
- Video on kie.ai. Seedance 2.0 — text, image and reference to video — and Kling V3 Turbo now run through a kie.ai key as well: 17 video models across two providers. A film whose default clip model lives on kie.ai stays there even when a model is named loosely (“Seedance”), and naming a provider (“kie Seedance”, “Atlas Seedance”) is honoured.
- The console reported “0 done” after every batch. It read the result at the wrong level, so failures were invisible — and a picture that was generated but could not be written into the film file was announced as done, so a second click paid for it twice. Both now say what happened.
- A video-only kie.ai setup could not make a clip. Atlas was assumed to be there; without an Atlas key every clip stopped at “no Atlas key”. The provider that has a key is used.
- Video prices were in two different units — per second on one provider, per clip on the other — so “the cheapest model” and the budget compared unlike things. One unit now, per clip.
- One click, one paid run. Several controls could be pressed twice for one paid run (film export from the assistant, a beat voice-over, the image batch); the lock is now taken before anything waits. Adopting a rebuilt picture, an AI merge, written lines and matched narration reported success even when the film file could not be saved — they say so now, and the paid result is kept.
- A clip with its own sound could end a fraction early in the cut — the picture was padded to the slot, the sound was not.
- Licence. A licence that failed verification counted as valid; it no longer does. A licence is valid through the end of its last day, local time, with two days of slack for a wrong clock.
- Copying a project left the location plates behind; a backup could be written half on a crash; deck and treatment pages of a storyboard PDF became shots; “im Detail” in a description became an insert shot; a pre-release version was offered as an update. All fixed — from a full code audit of both editions.
- The assistant: a lower-case shot code was refused by four tools and accepted by the rest; a
shotslist lost againstscope: "all"and re-tagged the whole film; the film look sent with a prompt was dropped when the code case differed; a talking-head clip spoke a line that already had its own recording; the Cancel of a running character sheet could be undone by a second run.
1.11.2August 2026
- One switch: CREATE · WORKSPACE. NUVAR has always had two ways to work — the console and the full workspace, same film, same files. It just never said so. Both halves of the switch stay legible, the one you are on is the raised plate, and it sits in the same place in every header, because it is one program.
- The grey “STORYBOARD” key is gone. It named the wrong thing: the console has a storyboard of its own, so the same word meant two different views. And the board no longer carries a second CREATE button — two keys with the same word in one header is not a choice, it is a question.
- Leaving the board could drop your last edit. Switching views, and opening Settings from the board, went straight to the new page while up to 400 ms of typing was still waiting in the autosave. Every way off the board now writes first and leaves after. Quitting the app already did this; changing pages did not.
- In the storyboard a card now shows whether a shot has a clip, and switches between the still and the clip on the card itself. Deleting asks first. The footer keys read GENERATE IMAGE and GENERATE VIDEO, and every generate sheet offers the look presets.
1.11.1August 2026
- CREATE is the way in — one console instead of a hundred controls: a ring for the four steps, a wheel to pick the shot, three keys under your thumb. The full board stays one key away, same film, same files. English or German, your choice, remembered.
- Your board has an aspect ratio — 16:9, 21:9, 2.35:1, 2.39:1, 1.85:1, 4:3, 1.43:1, 1:1, 9:16. It crops the cards, not your images, and a film keeps its format across both views. Until now a card had no aspect at all: at the largest size it was 583 × 178 pixels, so about 45 % of every 16:9 image was cut away top and bottom and nothing said so.
- Generate straight from the board — the place where you see every frame at once is the place where you notice what is missing. One shot opens the same sheet as the console, prompt and all; several open one sheet with the dials once, the list of shots about to run, and a shared text box whose emptiness means every shot keeps its own. It asks first, in shots.
- Aspect is its own setting when you generate a still — it always existed, buried in the size list and written differently by every provider. Choosing a format now filters the sizes to that format.
- You can see that it is working — a bar stays up while anything is generating: what is running, how far along, and a STOP. And STOP now actually stops. It used to appear for every run while only knowing two kinds of job; for a single image, a single clip, a cast sheet, a PDF or a film assembly it changed the text to “Cancelling …” while the run carried on and was billed.
- The storyboard PDF works. It used to end in an internal error before the first page was built — and the message about it ran into the same fault, so nothing reached you at all.
- Two quick clicks on GENERATE no longer start two paid runs — the key locked itself only after the save that precedes the run, and a whole save is long enough for a second click to get through.
- Pause and resume in the animatic landed at the mirrored position; closing gaps and Auto Cut moved the pictures but left every voice under the wrong shot; a broken 3D scene file loaded as an empty one and was overwritten on the next save; the moodboard froze on large images. All fixed.
- Nineteen places still stood in German inside the English view — and an English interface had scripts broken into German shot descriptions.
1.10.1August 2026
- CREATE stopped promising a film it would not make — on the last step the big key said EXPORT and offered to assemble the whole thing, then refused after you had already been through four steps. It now writes out your stills. The labels around the dial stopped counting film seconds too.
- Full screen pages through the film — ‹ / › buttons and the arrow keys, with a counter. Before, the picture stayed put while the arrow keys quietly moved the selection behind it.
- A locked project is no longer a dead end — opening a film another window still had open showed an English message with a process number and nothing else. You now get the same way out the Projects page has always offered.
- The version is where you can see it — login screen and the footer of the board show which version you are running. The sample project tile also stopped advertising six shots when it has eight.
- The manual caught up: its CREATE chapter still described greyed-out keys, a storyboard button that only announced itself and a PDF export that did not exist. All three have worked for a while.
1.10.0August 2026
- Location sheets — build a room once from several angles (establishing, reverse, corners, high angle) and tag the shots that play there. The matching angle then rides along with each shot: a wide gets the establishing plate, an over-the-shoulder the reverse, a close-up the detail. Scenes stop looking like a different room in every shot.
- Staging beats — a location keeps the room identical but not the people in it. Group the shots of one setup into a beat and they all lock to its establishing image: same seat, same table, only the camera moves.
- Lip-sync for dialogue shots — a shot with a spoken line, its voice-over and a still becomes a talking head whose mouth matches the words. The previous clip is kept as a version.
- The assistant can assemble the cut by itself — it assigns voices, speaks the lines and puts the sequence together in the board’s real order, with inserts placed behind the shot they belong to.
- CREATE mode — script, image, motion, film on one console, for when the full board is more than you need.
- Storyboard-PDF import — a hand-drawn board becomes shots, each drawing kept as the picture and as a composition reference.
- Video version history — flip back to an earlier clip, as images already allowed. And your own audio files can be dropped straight onto the timeline.
- kie.ai as an image provider, alongside Atlas, fal and Freepik. Bring your own key.
- Two windows could eat your project — opening NUVAR twice let both write the same file. Only one window opens now, and backups are kept.
- An image the assistant generated could vanish moments later, overwritten by an autosave holding an older copy of the same shot. Fixed.
- PDF exports are a fraction of their old size, script import is faster and Stop actually stops it, and errors say what went wrong in plain language instead of a bare “failed”.
1.9.1July 2026
- Long films keep their sound — past roughly 250–370 shots the finished film could come out completely silent — no dialogue, no voice-over, no music — and be reported as a success. The exact point moved with how long your project folder’s name was. Sound now survives well past any feature length, and a mix that ever does fail says so plainly instead of showing a tick.
- The animatic export is much faster — the old default format encoded slower than the film runs, so a long animatic could be stopped mid-export with a message blaming your clips. MP4 is the default now: several times faster and a smaller file.
- You can stop an export, and see what it is doing — a □ Stop button sits beside Export, and the progress names the stage instead of a number that does not move for minutes.
- A network hiccup no longer costs you a generation — with fal and Freepik keys, one dropped connection could discard an image you had already been charged for, even a finished one. Those now ride out a blip. Cancelling is heard before the request goes out, and a started job hands back its id.
- Password reset works on macOS — on Mac builds “forgot password” could never actually send, yet said “check your inbox” anyway. It works now.
- The window snaps to half the screen again — below a certain width the header cut off and its buttons could not be reached at all.
1.9.0July 2026
- Clip sound and your voice-over now both play — a generated video brings its own audio, and a voice or dialogue you add on top used to replace it. They now run as two tracks, with the clip’s own sound ducking under the spoken line so the voice stays clear. In the editing timeline each clip’s sound gets its own CLIP lane; one click switches it off.
- The in-app agent runs on Claude or on GPT — pick the model in the agent panel’s header. GPT models use your OpenAI key, Claude models your Anthropic key, and the choice is remembered.
- Two editing fixes — dragging the playhead no longer stops at the edge of the window (pushing against it scrolls the view along), and rebuilding V1 from the storyboard no longer slides it under a clip parked on V2.
- Fully English — the last German strings are gone, including the file-picker button the operating system was labelling in the system language.
1.8.0July 2026
- Sturdier project files — a corrupt or empty project now auto-restores your newest valid backup instead of refusing to open, and quitting always flushes your latest edits to disk. Restoring a backup no longer shortens your undo history.
- More resilient long operations — a brief network hiccup during a long generation no longer loses the job.
- Stability & polish pass — preview memory-leak fixes and a range of smaller robustness improvements throughout.
1.7.9July 2026
- Image history per shot — every image you generate or edit for a shot is now kept. Right-click a shot → “Image versions…” to flip back through earlier versions and reuse any of them as the shot image, the first frame or the last frame. Nothing gets overwritten anymore.
- First & last frame for a shot — give a shot a start image and an end image: generate or set a first frame and a last frame (the card shows both), and save a rebuilt image straight into the first or last frame — always keeping your original.
- Smoother fullscreen preview — fast-skipping through images no longer makes a picture jump larger or slide to one side. Scroll the mouse wheel to page through images; Ctrl/⌘+scroll or double-click to zoom.
1.7.8July 2026
- Security & stability pass — a broad code audit fixed a handful of edge cases: editing the board while a generation is running no longer loses your changes; the project loader is hardened against malformed or shared project files; timeline trimming is frame-smooth; and crossfade exports keep In/Out trims and subtitles in sync. Plus smaller reliability fixes across image, video and voice generation and the editor.
1.7.7June 2026
- Hardened, more secure build — NUVAR now ships as a bundled, integrity-protected app package with a locked-down runtime, making the desktop build more tamper-resistant. No changes to how you work.
1.7.6June 2026
- Rebuild any image with a prompt — open a shot image and describe a change (the background, a building, a character…) and only that part is regenerated. Works in German or English; the original is kept until you accept the result.
- Pixel-mask inpaint — paint over a region of an image and regenerate just that area with a fresh prompt (uses a fal.ai key).
- 3D scene → realistic image — turn a 3D viewport layout (the exact camera angle & composition) into a photorealistic image in one click.
- Per-shot reference images and reusable prompt presets for faster, more consistent edits.
1.7.5June 2026
- Public beta — NUVAR now shows a BETA badge in the app (header, login screen and footer) to make its public-beta status clear. No functional changes from 1.7.4.
1.7.4June 2026
- Reliable batch image generation — editing the board while a batch is generating no longer drops the freshly generated images; your edits and the new images are merged safely.
- Smoother timeline & boards — drag/trim redraws once per frame and large boards no longer stutter while thumbnails build in the background.
- macOS — the main ⌫ key deletes the selected shot, and the animatic preview uses lightweight thumbnails.
- Safer projects & exports — you're asked before a project that may be open elsewhere is taken over, project saves are written atomically, and Script → Storyboard auto-lightens an over-long generation instead of failing.
- AI "balanced" mode now uses the current Sonnet model.
- Trial enforcement — when the free trial has ended, AI generation and PDF/XML export are blocked until a license is activated (active trials and valid licenses are unaffected).
1.7.3June 2026
- Stability hardening — a proactive macOS-focused audit closed a class of crashes where one stray value could blank the whole window. Hardened storyboard rendering, image & video generation (single + batch), Script → Storyboard, Find/Replace and the mood board. Fixed Color grade → "Match to reference", and on macOS Cmd+M minimizes the window again (use Ctrl+M for the mood board).
1.7.2June 2026
- Fix: "Browse File" in the Character Sheet — picking a reference image from disk could throw an error that blocked the whole window with a red error bar. Fixed, and the image loader was hardened so a stray value can never crash the app.
1.7.1June 2026
- macOS & Linux: images and media load again — local images, videos and 3D models (mood-board pictures, generated frames, references) could appear as a broken icon because the asset loader mishandled absolute paths. Fixed. (Windows was never affected.)
- Friendlier API-key handling — keys are trimmed of stray spaces/newlines on save and load, so a copy-paste slip no longer triggers a “401 invalid key”. When Claude rejects a key, NUVAR now explains what to fix — and that a Claude.ai chat subscription is not API access (the API is billed separately at console.anthropic.com).
1.7.0June 2026
- Character Sheet Generator — from a concept (or an existing image as the anchor), NUVAR writes a locked character look and generates a consistent set of views — front, 3/4, side, back, full-body, close-up, expressions — each reference-locked to the front so it stays the same person, then saves it as a character with every view as a reference. Characters Library → ✨ Generate Sheet.
- Real camera coverage — a new Angle coverage control in Script → Storyboard creates shot/reverse-shot for dialogue and multiple angles of the same beat instead of one shot per line. Right-click a shot → Add coverage angles… to generate reference-locked alternate angles of an existing shot and split the narration across them.
- Color grading — a non-destructive grade per shot plus a project-wide look: exposure, contrast, saturation, temperature/tint, LUTs (6 cinematic starters + import your own .cube), grain, vignette, blur and a VHS look. Live preview everywhere; baked into the export; one-click Auto correction; Match the look of a reference image; copy a grade onto other shots; export a graded still.
- Swap an image or video in the editor — Edit Shot → Choose File now accepts a video too (it pulls a poster frame and keeps the clip), with a clear Save confirmation.
- Credit guard — generating from a card while several shots are still selected now warns before it generates all of them.
- Keep long shots long — deliberately long shots are no longer capped to a few seconds, and you can Lock a shot's exact length.
1.6.16June 2026
- Describe a shot with AI — in the shot editor — a new DESCRIBE button writes the shot description for you: if the shot has an image, Claude looks at the frame and describes it; if not, it generates one from the shot name and your director look. One-click undo. (Windows)
- Frame thumbnails in the Production Schedule — the shooting list now shows each shot's image, so it reads at a glance instead of by code alone.
- Type in dialogs right after Alt-Tab — switching back to NUVAR from another window no longer leaves fields unresponsive; the window re-focuses immediately.
1.6.15June 2026
- Animatic export: H.264/MP4 & ProRes/MOV — alongside WebM: universal MP4 for players & YouTube, ProRes 422 HQ as an editing master for Premiere / Resolve / Final Cut. You always pick the save location.
- Pick the layers to render — a per-act layer checklist (All / Main only / None) with a live shot & runtime counter, so you export exactly what you want.
- Faster, rock-solid export engine — frames are assembled directly by the built-in encoder instead of being recorded in real time: much faster, and reliable on any graphics hardware.
- Drag shots between layers — move a card (or a whole multi-selection) into another layer; shot codes renumber automatically.
- Reorder acts & layers by drag — ⠿ grip in the act header, or grab a LAYER badge; ACT numbers and layer letters correct themselves.
- PDF export follows your aspect ratio — 9:16, 1:1, 2.39:1 and the rest get matching thumbnails and page layout.
1.6.14June 2026
- Cutaways & inserts in the final cut — anchor each insert after a main shot, or let AI auto-place them; the animatic preview and the assembled cut both weave them in at the right spot.
- Batch export — export several images or videos at once, plus single image/video export straight from the lightbox.
- New header layout — Settings · Export · Tools as three quick-access menus.
- Cleaner shot cards — duration and insert tags sit on the thumbnail, so the description and the time never overlap (even at small window sizes).
- Stability & security pass — robust image file-writing (no more “file write error” on re-generate), crash-resilient saving with automatic backup restore, hardened web security.
- AI imaging — GPT-Image-2 reference images, a neutral quality booster, an anti-montage guard for clean single frames, and script-anchored act/layer naming.
1.6.0June 2026
- Unified dark design across the whole app — one consistent, high-contrast look.
- Sharper readability: all UI text, labels and headings cleaned up for the dark and light themes.
- Refreshed director prompts incl. Car Commercial and high-class Advertising looks.
